摘要：This talk will describe new methods to produce microgel particles of varying size and composition. By using microfluidic techniques, it is possible to produce particles with exquisite precision, that are highly monodisperse in size and that can have a variety of complex structures, providing new utility. The properties of these particles, as well as some potential uses will be described. In addition, even though the particles are produced one-by-one, the feasibility of scale up to commercially viable volumes will be discussed.
專家簡介：
David A. Weitz 教授是美國哈佛大學（Harvard University）工程與應用科學學院的著名教授，是美國科學院院士、美國藝術與科學學院院士，學術成就斐然。Weitz 教授1978年在美國哈佛大學獲得博士學位，1978-1995年期間在美國Exxon Research and Engineering Co. 任研究科學家，1995-1999年期間在美國賓夕法尼亞大學（University of Pennsylvania）任教授，1999年至今在美國哈佛大學工程與應用科學學院任教授，2001年至今兼任美國哈佛材料研究科學與工程中心主任，2006年至今兼任美國哈佛大學系統(tǒng)生物學系教授。迄今，Weitz教授已發(fā)表高水平學術期刊論文400多篇，其中在Science, Nature, Nature Materials等國際頂級刊物上發(fā)表近30篇，申請發(fā)明專利60余項，應邀在世界各地做過500多次邀請學術報告。Weitz教授是國際上軟濕功能材料、膠體微粒系統(tǒng)、生物物理與生物材料、微流控等研究領域的知名專家，學術造詣頗深，具有很高的學術地位和非常大的國際學術影響力。
